Visa for family members of non-German EU citizens (not applicable to family members of German citizens – please see regular checklists depending on travel purpose)
Important
You are
- the spouse, the partner in life or a relative in the direct descending line of a EU citizen or
- a relative in the direct descending line of the spouse or partner in life of a EU citizen and are under 21 years of age or
- a relative in the direct ascending and direct descending line of a EU citizen or of his/her spouse or partner in life, for whom these persons or their spouses or partners in life provide maintenance
and
the relevant EU citizen lives in Germany or you want to accompany him/her to Germany?
Please read the checklist and fill out the application form thoroughly.
Required documents
Use the following checklist to make sure your application documents are complete. All documents listed here are to be submitted in the requested form and order.
Application completed, printed and signed (including Information provided to applicants pursuant to Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act)
One (1) recent biometric passport photo (see specimen photos)
- Valid and personally (signed passport with at least two completely empty pages)
- One (1) uncertified copy of the data page of your valid passport
Documents proving relationship as dependants in accordance with Freedom of Movement Act/EU Original + 1 copy :
- marriage certificate or other proof of relationship with EU citizen or his/her spouse / partner in life (original and copy)
- copy of the EU citizen’s passport´s data page and -if he/she is residing in Germany- proof of residence
- proof of support/maintenance payments (only for family members of European Union citizens and their spouses /partners in life older than 21 years)
Documents proving the type of activity of the EU citizen in Germany:
- Proof of employment / self-employment
- Proof of Immatriculation at a University / College + proof of financial means and applicant´s health insurance
- In all other cases (e.g. unemployed, pensioner etc): suitable official confirmation + proof of financial means and applicant´s health insurance
Additional documents for children under the age of 18 Original + 1 copy:
- Full unabridged birth certificate (containing father’s and mother’s name) in original and copy
- Guardian’s/parents declaration of consent signed by both guardians/parents in original and copy
- Copy of first page of passport of parents/legal guardian(s)
Special cases for children under the age of 18
- One parent/legal guardian is deceased: Original + 1 copy of death certificate
- Sole custody has been granted: Original + 1 copy of decree of the competent court
